Privacy policy

Nearby conversations. Local storage. Choices you control.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the Beamello Android app, this website and support requests. Beamello does not require a Beamello account, email address, phone number or contact import to chat. It has no Beamello-operated chat server or cloud inbox.

The Core Beta app supports nearby text conversations, Direct messages, Circles, eligible message relay and local privacy controls. Nearby visibility requires confirmation that you are 18 or older.

What stays on your phone

Your local profile, settings and conversation records are stored on your device. Message history and private communication records are held in an encrypted local Vault. Beamello does not send these records to a developer-operated collection service.

The app has no Beamello analytics, advertising or remote crash-reporting service. Google Play services has its own data handling, described below.

What nearby people can see

When you choose to appear nearby, your temporary handle is used for discovery. Message text, private conversation history, Circle membership and exact location are not included in the discovery name.

Your display name and messages are shared with the participants you communicate with. Main Chat is a shared nearby room: currently admitted participants can read what you post there. Direct and Circle message contents are end-to-end encrypted for their intended participants.

In builds that offer profile photos, choosing a photo shares a tiny re-encoded preview with authorized nearby participants through encrypted private transfers. The original image metadata is excluded. Photos are not included in discovery names or sent to an internet service. Removing your photo sends an update when recipients are reachable; it cannot remove a copy someone has already saved.

If message relay is enabled, participating phones may temporarily carry eligible encrypted messages that they cannot read. Devices can still observe radio activity, timing and payload sizes. A photo relay can recognize a profile-photo transfer and its routing details, but cannot open the photo. You can turn off relay and clear its local cache in Settings.

Google Play services Nearby

Beamello uses Google Play services Nearby Connections to discover and connect to nearby devices. Nearby chat can work without an internet connection.

Google documents collection of usage analytics, including connection-performance metrics and device information, by its Nearby SDK. Google describes a control under your device’s Google settings, Usage & diagnostics. See Google’s Nearby data-collection disclosure and Google’s privacy policy.

Offline messaging does not mean that every Google component is unable to communicate with Google when internet access is available.

Permissions and optional features

Nearby discovery needs the Bluetooth, nearby-device and Location permissions requested by the current Android build, plus the system Location switch. Beamello does not read GPS coordinates for ordinary Nearby discovery. Exact-location sharing is disabled.

Notifications show session information and private alerts. You can manage permissions and notifications in Android Settings, and pause nearby visibility in Beamello.

Profile photos are optional where offered. You choose an image using Android’s photo picker; small previews are stored locally and wait behind message traffic when connections are busy. Availability depends on your app version.

Media attachments, voice notes, relative proximity/ranging and a separate same-Wi-Fi transport are experimental features and are disabled in Core Beta. Experimental builds may request additional permissions when you choose those features. Their media is stored locally; media does not enter the mesh relay. The separately enabled same-Wi-Fi route exposes local-network activity and connection metadata to that network.

Deleting data and losing your phone

Use the app’s local deletion controls or Erase all local data in Settings to remove data from this phone. Erase All removes local Vault data, private attachments/cache and the local key used to access the Vault.

Deleting data on your phone does not delete copies already received by other people. Beamello does not provide a cloud backup, account recovery or a developer-accessible copy of your conversations. Uninstalling, resetting or losing the device can permanently remove access to your history.

This website and support requests

This website serves pages and download files. It does not use analytics scripts or tracking cookies. Hosting systems may process request details, such as an IP address and requested page, to deliver and protect the website.

The contact form uses a security cookie that expires after one hour. Short-lived spam checks use a temporary hash of your reply address and submission tokens in server memory; they are not stored as a tracking history. Support messages and reply addresses are sent through our mail provider, Purelymail, to our support inbox and used to respond. The form service does not store submissions on disk or log message contents. Emails remain in the support mailbox while handling your request; you may request deletion through the form.

This website form is separate from the offline Android app. It cannot access your app history. Please avoid sending private conversations, credentials or other people’s personal information.

Privacy questions

For privacy questions or requests, use the contact form. We cannot retrieve messages that exist only in your local Vault. For help using the app, visit Beamello support.

Changes to this policy will be posted on this page with an updated date.
